Bios:

Patrick O'Donnell was born in Ireland, Earth, like his parents (Brendan and Eileen). They moved when he was five to an outpost on Earth's moon where Eileen's job as a Starfleet architect and Brendan's job as a materials scientist put them near the Aristarchus Crater. There he grew up and dreamt of flight and shuttlecrafts as an only child. Watching the civilian and Starfleet spacecraft land and take off from the Moon through his bedroom window, and sneaking into the outpost's docking bay to study the sleek spacecraft, he got a first-hand glimpse of the marvels of spaceflight. At age 23, he earned a Masters degree in spacecraft design and another in flight control from the County Meith Technical Institute, a prominant science and engineering college in Ireland.

Erin Benson (later O'Donnell) was also born in Ireland, Earth. Her parents and everyone in her family before them had never lived outside the country. She and her parents stayed there until she was thirteen, when her mother's job as a warp mechanics analyst moved her to Starbase 112. Her father (Seamus) operated the family dairy farm in Ireland and could not bring himself to leave it, as it had been in the family for a miraculous four centuries. This conflict between them ended in the decision to separate, and Erin's mother (Catherine) left for Starbase 112. Erin's elder brother was nineteen at the time, and enrolled in Starfleet Academy. He chose to stay. Erin went with her mother, wanting to see the cosmos and the wonders of the universe. When she turned eighteen, she considered enrolling in Starfleet Academy, but instead decided to go to civilian college on Earth and try to reconcile with her father. Since Erin decided to abandon the farm, Seamus and she had been estranged. Her efforts to reconcile were half-way successful, but her endeavor to gain experience in shuttlecraft design was a huge success. She earned a Masters in shuttlecraft design and propulsion systems engineering, and helped to design the propulsion matrix on the current Starfleet shuttle design.

Erin and Patrick met at a shuttle design conference in San Fransisco. Both were commissioned by Starfleet to help design a new shuttle that could withstand a crash-landing on a terrestrial planet with an enormous gravitational field. As they began working with each other, they fell in love and a year later decided to get married. They were about the same age when they got married (Erin was 26, Patrick was 28). They had their first child in 2347 and named him Matthew Patrick. When Matthew was one, they moved to Station 10, near the Utopia Planetia Shipyards (Mars) as ongoing civilian contractors for Starfleet. In 2352, their daughter Colleen Kassidy O'Donnell was born. The two children lived happily on Station 10 with their parents until 2362, when a shuttlecraft accident killed their son Matthew and severely wounded Colleen. Colleen fully recovered, and enrolled in Starfleet Academy at age 17. She earned a degree in flight control, minored in engineering, and became a shuttle/runabout pilot.

Recently, Colleen uncovered that the shuttlecraft accident that killed Matthew was caused by the covert rogue operations group Section 31. It was Section 31's way of warning Colleen's parents that disclosing information about their group would lead to the injury of Erin and Patrick's children. They had not intended to kill either child, but only to send a message by injuring them. Erin and Patrick uncovered information about Section 31 sometime around 2362 that S31 felt important enough to take the extreme of threatening children's lives to protect.

Both Erin and Patrick's family have a long nautical history, as well as a long Irish history. By simple luck, the only non-Irish person in the O'Donnell bloodline married Erin's great-grandfather on her mother's side.

Erin is an extremely organized person and loves being a mother. She likes to 'fuss' organizing things, buying presents for people, and cooking when she isn't designing spacecraft for Starfleet. When she gets angry, which isn't too often, Colleen and Patrick and everyone else has noticed that her mild Irish accent thickens to a full-blown accent.
Patrick has been called 'softspoken' but he just chooses the right times to speak out. When he wants to or needs to, he will fight for and win whatever cause he must. And when he gets angry, which also isn't often, he too can turn on his Irish accent. Most of the time, however, he doesn't speak with an accent at all.
